The Ice series at Franz Joseph Glacier in New Zealand
I am currently working on the Ice photo series that we did in New Zealand. that was quite an adventure 🙂
August 10, 2010 almost became our last day and today we explain why so that nobody ends up in the same situation as we did.
on that day we jumped the security barriers at Franz Joseph Glacier in new zealand and did a photo session under the terminal frontal face of the glacier; later we would learn that other people have died doing the same thing.
As we were working we heard strange noises increasing and we moved away, a few seconds later a massive block of ice fell crashing the trypod where i had been standing; as we started to run away, the entire frontal face of the glacier collapsed down in a massive explossion of ice blocks.
so never stand under the frontal terminal face of a glacier, its extremely dangerous;glaciers change every day and their face often collapses suddenly without warning; that day we had a few seconds of warning, another lesson about how precious each day of this life is.
